Friedrich Burkhard
Burkhard Friedrich (born 1962 in Berlin) studied composition and classical saxophone in Stuttgart, Lübeck and Berlin. He has been a recipient of the Heinrich-Strobel Stipend granted by the Southwest German Radio and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the cultural office Hamburg and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (Else-Heiliger-Fonds).
He wrote numerous chamber operas, music-theatre works and works for chamber orchestra which had huge success for instance at Festivals in Berlin, Hamburg and Bregenz (Austria) and Vienna. He is recently finishing his opera “Die Wahrheit der Welt” (inspired by Heinrich von Kleist: “Das Erdbeben von Chili”) for orchestra and eight voices.
Burkhard Friedrich was awarded various international prizes for his compositions and his interpretations of contemporary music on the saxophone. His compositions are published on CD by labels like WERGO (Berlin), Dekoder (Hamburg), Ahornfelder (Hamburg), Klangdebuts (Graz) and others. As a saxophonist Burkhard Friedrich has performed all over Europe and the U.S. He has produced numerous solo- and chambermusic works on CD, works which were written for him or ensemble Intégrales by well known and young contemporary composers.
Since 2000 he is the artistic director of the pedagogical project “Klangradar 3000 – contemporary music and composition in public schools”, powered by the german Council of Music and is promoting seminars and workshops about compositional education in public schools at music universities. He has a teaching assignment for “Didactics of composition - concepts and models for practice” (Bachelor and Master of Education and Bachelor and Master of Music) at the College of Music Luebeck.
