Prat Francesc

The conductor and composer Francesc Prat, born in Barcelona, leads his young career principally on the contemporary music and the operatic repertoire.
His musical interest on new music has linked him to a close professional cooperation with the conductor Jürg Henneberger and the Ensemble Phoenix Basel, as well as the Barcelona 216 and the Ensemble Ö!. He has worked regularly at the Gare du Nord – Bahnhof für Neue Musik Basel. He has premiered pieces of a large number of swiss and spanish young composers. He was musical director of Art on stage, cooperation between the Theater Basel and Art/Basel.
At the operatic side he was assisting Ivor Bolton at the Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona and since then, Prat works regularly with him. Also at the Liceu he was assisting Sebastian Weigle. Since the season 2012-2013 he has been assisting Josep Pons at the same theater. He has conducted different tittles of the operatic repertoire as well operas of the contemporary repertoire. He conducted the première of Roland Moser’s opera “Rahel und Pauline” at the Lucerne Festival.
As a composer his works has been played in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Poland, Mexiko and Turkey. On October 2012 he has premiered his first opera in Basel (CH).
Francesc Prat gets his first musical studies at the Escolania de Montserrat. He continues his Oboe, Piano and Theory studies at the Conservatori Superior de Música de Barcelona. After focused himself to the study of composition in Basel with Roland Moser and conducting at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. In Basel, he also studied interpretation of contemporary music and improvisation.
Prat teaches Interpretation of New Music at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu de Barcelona. He is co-founder and musical director of the Orquestra del Montsalvat (Barcelona).
