Renaud Matthias

Matthias Renaud was born in 1983 in Muri (Switzerland), grew up in Villmergen, went to school and took lessons in piano and organ there and in Wohlen; later studies in musicology, computer sciences and physical geographie at the University of Basel (licenciate 2011), at the same time he studied composition with Balz Trümpy and Georg Friedrich Haas at the Music Academy of Basel (diploma 2010) where he also partook in master classes with Beat Furrer and Helmut Lachenmann. Since 2011 he has been working as an IT system engineer and does his composing after work and on weekends. Primary musical influences include composers such as Edgard Varèse, György Ligeti and Gérard Grisey. His works have been performed by ensembles such as Ensemble Phoenix Basel, Basel Symphony Orchestra, ensemble contraire and numerous fellow Music Academy students.
